The Migrants in the Spotlight project, funded primarily by the European Commission, aims to contribute to improved understanding, awareness and reporting on migration issues, third country nationals, integration and related topics among media and students of journalism, including immigrants themselves, in order to facilitate more effective and accurate reporting on migration issues in Hungary, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia.

Introduction
Media Competition Winners
The International Organization for Migration, with funding by the European Union, hosted a competition for university and college students to submit articles and documentaries on migration and integration-related issues. The articles and documentaries addressed integration issues in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia. The selected winners received a cash prize and their work was showcased at the international conference “Promoting Migrant Integration Through Media and Intercultural Dialogue” held in Budapest in May 2011. The winning articles and documentaries are now available on this website for viewing.
International Conference 'Promoting Migrant Integration through Media and Intercultural Dialogue'
Within the framework of the Hungarian EU Presidency and as part of the project “Migrants in the Spotlight”, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Interior of Hungary, and project partner organizations from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia, an international conference was held in Budapest the 16th to 18th of May 2011 on the media response to migration and interculturalism issues in Europe and best practices in reporting on migration issues. The conference also showcased the winners of the Europe-wide competition for university students on articles and documentaries on migration and integration-related issues.
